Website Content

The content on your site will need to compel your visitors to purchase from you or whatever it is you are wanting them to do. Be passionate about your business in your writing. As far as SEO goes, your content and it's relevancy to your titles and keywords is very important.

You need to become a good salesman while writing your content, show that you BELIEVE in your product!

Search engines prefer websites with content in the 1000 word range. So adding content is a major issue you need to conquer.

If you do a search on google, you will find lots of websites for helping you improve your web writing style. It takes an effort but it DOES pay off in the end!

Firefox!

If you don't currently use firefox, I suggest you download it and several of the web developer add-ons. It's great fun and there is LOADS of information in there, things you didn't even know you wanted to know!!

Google

Well, as Google no longer seems to be counting 95% of our incoming links.... things must clearly be re-thought! It has always been important to find incoming ONE way links, it seems to be more important now. Seems Google is no longer interested in links exchanges, links pages, etc... Not sure why and I'm not sure anyone has EVER really figured out how Google does their page ranking.

Something that surprised me was Top 100 sites! I wasn't sure how much good they did, if any but I admit I've submitted to several and even started one of my own just to see if/how it would help. Several of my incoming links from Google are From TOP 100 sites! This DID shock me but..... there it is. So, if you come across a top 100 page, especially one that has any pagerank, go for it... submit your site.

And work on those one way links. I wish I could tell you how to go about it but still working on that myself. Haven't found anyone that is actually able to EXPLAIN how this can be done (still searching though!).

Keywords

Choosing appropriate keywords is extremely important; keywords are what lead searchers to your site.

Choosing the right keywords is one of the first things you should do.

Think about what you sell. How would you, yourself search for it? What keywords would YOU key in to find it? Ask your friends, how would they search?

Ask yourself who you need to target; who needs your products.

Try not to use "stop words", these are works like "and" and "the". Be specific with your keywords. The better they are, the better your chances that people will find your products.

Look at your competition. Do NOT copy them but looking at how they are marketing their keywords can give you some ideas on how you might want to use your keywords.

Use keyword tools, many are available for free online. Google's keyword tool is the one I recommend.

Research, research and research! That's the key.

Some tools that have helped me along the way!

The SEO road has been loooong and hard but there are some tools that have helped me along the way and I'd like to share them here.

http://www.widexl.com/remote/search-engines/metatag-analyzer.html
The above site helped me a lot in the beginning and still does. For instance, I had no idea there was a limit on the number of characters you should use in titles, descriptions and keywords for the best results. I was able to take myself from just over 50% revelancy to 100% on everything in just a few hours. Also gives you information on keyword density that is very helpful.

Another tool that does much the same thing in a bit different way.

http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
Google sitemap creator. This helps tremendously when it comes time to submit your sitemap to google. Much easier than trying to create that file yourself, which is how I started. Never realized there were tools like this, that are FREE.
